· common questions

frequently asked.

how big is the studio?
the studio is 1,600 sq ft of clear shooting space, with 4m ceilings under the original victorian skylight roof. the floor plan is open with a few stylable corners — pink stairs at one end, exposed brickwork, white walls and a small kitchen / changing area off the main room. easily accommodates fashion shoots, lookbooks, brand campaigns, music videos and crewed productions of 8–15 people.
is the studio fully daylit?
yes — 20+ original sawtooth skylights run the length of the roof, providing soft, diffused natural light from sunrise to sunset throughout the year. the victorian roof was originally designed to flood the peanut factory floor with even, north-facing light, which is exactly the light photographers and stylists want for editorial, fashion and beauty work. on overcast days the light stays consistently soft; on bright days you'll get directional shafts.
where exactly is the studio?
we're on fish island in hackney wick, east london, postcode e3. five minutes' walk from hackney wick overground station (london overground line, direct trains from stratford, dalston, willesden junction and richmond), ten minutes from stratford international, and twenty minutes from liverpool street. fish island is in the queen elizabeth olympic park area, with plenty of cafes, supplier shops and stylist warehouses within walking distance.
is there parking?
limited street parking is available on-site for short-term loading and unloading of kit and wardrobe. fish island is a controlled parking zone monday to friday during business hours, so longer-stay parking is best done at the nearby olympic park public car parks or at one of the secure car parks in stratford. most of our clients arrive via hackney wick overground — it's the easiest way in.
can you supply lighting equipment?
yes — every full-day booking includes a free lighting kit as standard (bowens heads with a large softbox, two c-stands, umbrellas, weights and a wireless trigger). additional bowens flash packages, continuous blondes, modifiers, polyboards and colour gels are available to hire at the same time. for off-site productions we can also crate kit for collection. just let us know what you need at booking and we'll have it ready in the studio when you arrive.
can we shoot video as well as stills?
absolutely. the daylight space works equally well for stills and motion — we host fashion films, music videos, brand spots, talking-head interviews and product films regularly. the ceiling height (4m) accommodates wide-angle setups and full-body shots without compromise, and the kitchen / changing room offers an easy switch space for crew downtime. we can also bring in continuous lighting on request.
